To Our Boys - Have Courage And Be Kind!
With all that is going on in the world, I thought I would put my thoughts down on paper. I am both angry and dumbfounded about what has been going on for years in Hollywood.
If you don't know what I am talking about, it is 2 words - Harvey Weinstein. Big honcho who is accused of groping and raping women. I believe I recently read there is over 50 women who have come forward. Most of these women were either models or actresses.
This sexual predator used his power to try to get women to do things in exchange for parts or whatever. How many people stood by and watched and listened to the rumors and did nothing? How many just turned their backs and acted like nothing was going on?
It sickens me to think about the depth this went. Where was everybody? Too consumed with their own stuff? Shouldn't we start to think about someone else and step up to the plate.
I am a mom to 2 boys - 22 & 25. I have always been honest with them and tried to teach them right from wrong. I think I did okay. But we as moms to boys, need to step up our game. We need to take control back from all the dirt bags that roam this world and think women are just pieces of meat!
Here are some things I have taught my boys over the years:
1. Always hold the door for a woman. Look them in the eye and smile. Acknowledge them.
2. Never disrespect a woman. We are intelligent people who have a lot to say and our voices deserve to be heard.
3. Never make a woman feel less than. Treat her as an equal because she is.
4. Most of all be kind.
The best saying I have ever heard came from the most recent "Cinderella" movie. The quote is "have courage and be kind." How great is that!
So, to all those boys out there in the world, if you ever see a woman being abused or disrespected - do this one thing. STAND UP! Have courage and take the dirtbag down. By doing that, you will be making the world a much better place.
